Zion allows you to follow the paths where ancient native people and pioneers once walked the land. With massive sandstone cliffs of cream, pink, and red that soar into a brilliant blue sky, you are guaranteed a weekend to remember. Our first day we will watch the sunset at Kolob Canyons Viewpoint. On day two we will consist of canyoneering through slot canyons in the Narrows along the Virgin River. The following day, we will aim for three hikes! Hiking the Hidden Canyon Trail, Kenyeta Trail and the Upper Emerald pools! On our last day, we will hike the famous Angels Landing trail filled with switchbacks ascending over sheer cliffs with chains bolted on the rock face to serve as handrails. Zion’s unique array of plants and animals will enchant you as you absorb the rich history of the past and enjoy the excitement of present day adventures.

Itinerary

Day 1: We will meet at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center at 8 am on Friday morning to pack up the van and make sure we all have the necessary and proper gear for a successful trip. Then we will depart shortly for our 395.5 miles /627 km drive, about 8-hour drive to the magnificent Zion National Park. Along the way, we will take two short stops for meals (meals not provided). After dinner, we will take a short walk where to the Kolob Canyons Viewpoint where we will watch the sunset before heading to our campground. After the magnificent sunset, we will head to our campground calling it a night and sleeping under the stars.

Day 2: Rise and shine at 7 am for some good breakfast and a gear check for the day. We pack up our gear and lunch and take a quick shuttle ride over the famous Narrows of Zion National Park. It’s a long day in the Narrows as we hike up the river looking at the vibrant colored walls. We will have lunch at the end of the hike and then it’s another long trek back down to the mouth of the Narrows. We load up in the shuttle and then stop at our campground to drop off gear and change. Then take a short walk or the shuttle if you would like to the Zion Human History Museum!

Day 3: Rise and shine at 6 am for some good breakfast and get an early start on our daily hikes. Let’s try to hit three hikes today! We will begin our morning hike seeing the infamous Weeping Rock; heading straight into the Hidden Canyon Trail! The hike will be a 2.4-mile roundtrip which will take us approximately 2.5 hours. After getting some great views from the cliff face to the mouth of a narrow canyon on the Hidden Canyon Trail we will cross the road to the Grotto trail taking the 2-mile Kayenta Trail and ending our long hike at the Upper Emerald Pools!

Day 4: It’s another early wake up at 6 am to a good breakfast and a packing of lunch. After we head over to the shuttle and get transported to Angel’s Landing trailhead for our morning hike. We will hike up the switchbacks to the top of the cliff where we then traverse on the rim of the cliff using chains mounted along the trail. We eat some lunch at the top and then it’s back down the trail and back to CSUSB. We shall get some dinner along the way so bring some money and should arrive back at CSUSB around 10 pm.
