Trip Description:

Zion allows you to follow the paths where ancient native people and pioneers once walked the land. With massive sandstone cliffs of cream, pink, and red that soar into a brilliant blue sky, you are guaranteed a weekend to remember. Our first day will consist of trekking through the slot canyons in the Narrows along the Virgin River. The following day, we will hike the famous Angels Landing trail filled with switchbacks ascending over sheer cliffs with chains bolted on the rock face to serve as handrails. Zion’s unique array of plants and animals will enchant you as you absorb the rich history of the past and enjoy the excitement of present day adventures.

Day 1: We will meet at the Student Recreation and Fitness Center at 8am on Sunday morning to pack up the van and make sure we all have the necessary and proper gear and attire for a successful trip. Then it’s a 390 mile / 627 km drive, about 6 hours, to the magnificent Zion National Park. A quick stop will be made at the Zion Outfitter store for our mountaineering neoprene shoes and socks for the Narrows. We will check in at the Watchman Camp site located at the south end of the park, and set up camp for the night.

Day 2: Rise and shine at 7am for some good breakfast and a gear check for day. We pack up our gear and lunch, and take a quick shuttle ride over the famous Narrows of Zion National Park. It’s a long day in the Narrows as we hike up the river looking at the walls of different colors. We will have lunch at the end of the hike and then it’s another long trek back down to the mouth of the Narrows. Once we are done, we will catch a ride with the shuttle back to camp, where we switch to our van for a run to the town to return the gears. Upon our return to the camp, we will make a nice fire, make some dinner, and get a good night sleep.

Day 3: It’s another early wake up at 8am to a good breakfast and a packing of lunch. After we head over to shuttle and get transported to Angel’s Landing trail head. Once at the trail head we hike up the switchbacks to the top of the cliff where we then traverse on the rim of the cliff using chains mounted along the trail. We eat some lunch at the top and then it’s back down the trail and back to CSUSB. We shall get some dinner along the way so bring some money and should arrive back at CSUSB around 10pm.
